“Eqrem Çabej” University of Gjirokastër organized the online workshop: “Microcredentials for Post-Registration Nurses in the Western Balkans” as part of WP 2.

The meeting focused on the importance and necessity of microcredential courses for improving professional training and developing the competencies of healthcare professionals in the Western Balkan region.

The event was attended by academic staff members from UGJ and partner universities from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, and Finland, as well as nursing students, nurses, and healthcare professionals.

The main discussion points addressed the role of microcredentials in the healthcare system and the benefits they provide for strengthening professional competencies; the current state of microcredentials in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an emphasis on their challenges and potential; the experience of Finland, where microcredentials have been officially applied and recognized since 1990, serving as a good example for Western Balkan countries; and the presentation of the pilot program developed within the TCCWB project – Supporting Development of Transcultural Competences for Healthcare Professionals in the Western Balkans, which explained both its content and implementation approach.

This activity, co-financed by Erasmus+ CBHE, reinforces international cooperation and the shared commitment to developing a modern training framework for healthcare professionals in the Western Balkans region. It also highlights the growing recognition of microcredentials as a strategic tool for supporting flexible, high-quality, and practice-oriented lifelong learning.
